Court got me started in running in 1965. Our hero was Peter Snell who dominated the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo in the middle distance events. Of course Jim Ryan was a phenomenon and even from Kansas. At KU we were suitemates in Naismith Hall. We lost touch for many years after college until he showed up at a reunion. It was great to re-connect but he passed away in 2010 (I think).
He was a great friend.
This picture is before a workout (we don't look too hammered) our sophomore year 1966.
The Court I knew was a bit of a character in high school. He always would invite me to come out beer drinking which I believe took place in a church parking lot or something like that. I actually roomed with his first cousin for short while at KU. His cousin’s name was Chip Certain (Earl E. Certain, Jr). He was also a bit of a character. Anyway, from what I know, Court got a PhD in microbiology and was studying bacteriophage, essentially virus particles that can infect bacteria. So sorry to learn of his passing as he would be someone I would have enjoyed spending time with again.

Hi Court, We had at least one class together. I think you drove a sports car, 190 SL, which was just like my folks'. Johnny Magnuson
