I think Stu (Wart, I called him), still owns the Earned Run Average record in 1973 as a pitcher at Kansas Straight University. Stu once hit 99 of 100 free throws on his basketball goal on his driveway. He became the kickball champion after Gary Hosack, Paul (Pinky) Clark, and myself were the home run kickball champions at Linwood School, after the 3 of us kicked home runs on to the roof of the school. Wart showed up and was the only one that could kick the ball over the school, down Mission Road. He was the new champ! Rest in peace, Wart! Fast Cass

Stu was a good friend from grade school through high school. I lost track of him during college years but would hear about his success as a pitcher at K State from time to time. I did see him around 1976 at his apartment in the Roanoke area and he filled me in on his Minor League baseball career. I found Stu to be a very competetive guy in all sports, but I never heard him begrudge anyone's skills on the field. He always admired talent in others.

We were both pitchers as kids snd we would spend countless hours talking baseballl, pitching techniques, etc. We both had a fondness for reading sports fiction, and would share any new Chip Hilton or Bronc Burnett book we would gett for birthdays or Christmas with each other.

RIP Stu.

Hey Mike Haney, Michael Cacioppo here. I appreciated your comment about Stu (Wart) Lindell. I also remember when I played on a last-place baseball team against your team when you were pitching. I used to point to the outfield where I intended to hit the ball, like Cleveland Indians player Rocky Colavito did. I pointed to left field but began swinging before you delivered the pitch, because you were so fast. I still didn't get around on the ball fast enough, but I did hit a solid double to right-center field to break up your no-hitter. At my next at-bat, you stuck another of your fabulous fastballs in my left kneecap and I got to "walk" to first base hurting badly, but trying not to show it. I am surprised you never played in the major leagues. I don't think there was anybody faster than you, Mike, except for me, Fast Cass, but I didn't get that nickname from pitiching - ha!
