Dan died of illness in January 1991, shortly after his 40th birthday.  Dan went to Princeton and then to Rice Law School.  He practiced law in Houston, Texas until his death.  I kept in good contact with Dan, and when I lived for three years in Midland, Texas, I got to visit with him and got to introduce my children to him.  Dan was one of the finest friends I have ever known.

Dan was one of my best friends at SMS. He was a strategic thinker, a brilliant debater and wickedly funny. I was only hauled in by the police once, in my misspent youth, and Dan was the ringleader of that misadventure. His untimely death in the prime of life still saddens me all of these years later. But I know how fully Dan lived his life and that he possessed courage in abundance. I am glad I got a chance to be his friend.
