Bill was at one time a vocalist for my jr. high band The Clergymen, which included Paul "Pinky" Clark, drummer, plus bassist Greg Whitfield, and myself on guitar. All of us SMS Class of 69. Bill was a year older than us, and the only one in the band with a drivers license! He drove a two-tone 56 Chevy, and we all remember this odd habit he had of reaching through the steering wheel to take the keys out of the ignition. Along with Bill, we all laughed about it....and then went in and made great music together. He was a fine person, and I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.

The news of Bills passing brought much saddness to me and my wife. Although we had not seen each other in a while, memories of Bill and our life experiences together play'n music with Paul Clark in the early days, are ever present in my mind......We will miss you Bill!

I enjoyed listening to and dancing to the music made by Bill Speer and other classmates. Paul Clark, R.G daCunha, Skip Johnson, Bob Morris, Greg Whitfield. I haven't seen Bill in years, but I remember him as a real nice guy.

It's far too early for me to post all that I have to say about Bill. 58 years of friendship doesn't just sting like a bee and go away. He was my first "compass friend." In other words, the friend that I hope all of you have been blessed with ..... one of the North, East, South or West dials on the compass of your life. The friend that knows everything and is still just the same with you as they were in the formative years of your lives together. I could talk to him 5 minutes ago, or 5 months ago ... we'd just pick up where we left off. (*Fortunately, I have another "compass friend" on this site, Mike Burhart ...... Berf).

Bill's Celebration of Life Service will be from 6-8pm on July 5th at The Rock Fellowship, 12750 N. Winan Ave., Kansas City, Mo. 64163. There will be a lot of people sharing their reflections on Bill's life, as well as Phil Keaggy and my self playing some music that we made as Paul Clark & Friends with Bill at the keyboards. There's even an outside chance we'll be playing as a band with Mike, Jay and others. Hope to see you there!

Bill,Paul, and I road to school together sophomore year in his 56 Chevy.  One night we took it out in the snow and were turning donuts in the Metcalf Shopping Center and accidentally hit the right side of the car." Lucy you got some explaining to do". We all had to figure out what Bill was going to tell his dad, the car was in mint condition. Grounded from the car for a month. Bill will be missed he was a peaceful man.

So sorry to hear about Bill. He was a great guy.  As I read all of the posts I feel like I am reliving the past.  I thought my memory was going bad and then I started reading the posts, and I remember everyone like we were in high school.

Everyone remembers Bill and those  concerts, I only remember the one where the motorcycle cop’s helmet disappeared and he wouldn’t let anyone leave until it was returned.  Once I took a road trip with Bill. It was Jeff McVey, and either Gary Johns or Steve Lewis and myself in my 54 Chevy, and Bill driving his car with who else in it I don’t remember, heading down to Padre Island. Nothing monumental happened other than our parents let us go and that car made it there and back. His obituary, however too soon, was a fitting tribute to more than a nice guy.
